Travel Buddies Our three schools exchanged travel buddies this school year. We did this in order to learn more about each other's cultures. We enjoyed this very much! Below you can meet our six travel buddies and find out a little about
each by clicking on its photo:

Bonnie the Bunny- Bonnie is from Cannelton, USA. She was sent to Hiyoshi Elementary School in Japan to visit Hajime Yanase's 3rd grade students. She brought with her warm clothes, a diary (journal) information about Cannelton and Indiana, camera, drawings and much more! Throughout the year the students of Hiroshi sent to us many photos of Bonnie enjoying her stay in Japan.
Click on Bonnie to view the photos of her visit. Bonnie is certainly a world traveler! She has previously been to:
- Sydney, Australia
- Haarlem, The Netherlands
- Hornbaek, Denmark
- CapeTown, South
Africa! |

Baldy the Eagle - Cannelton's other travel buddy is Baldy the Eagle and he traveled to Haarlem, The Netherlands to visit Mr. Rene de Vries and his
students. He was chosen to represent our class because he is the United States National Symbol of
Freedom. He had never been on such a long trip before, but we know Mr. Rene and his students have taken very good care of
him. He took with him a camera, journal, no clothes as his feathers keep him warm, drawings and letters and information about Cannelton and
Indiana.

Jumbo is a cute, giant mouse, who loves Dutch Cheese and so he has eaten so much and has grown to be a giant! He loves to be with children, because they make him feel special. So, he is very happy to go visiting other schools around the world. He came to visit Cannelton this year, and so far he thinks it is great!
He especially has enjoyed the Valentine's Day party and the Harvest Fest day, both of those days there was lots of special treats! |
Lady the Dog is a world traveler also! She has been to the United States to visit Cannelton
before.
And the first year of her career as world traveler, she went to
South Africa. One of her highlights was her visit to a student who
met Mr. Nelson Mandela!
She likes to be around children and she plans to make many more school visits. She has enjoyed her stay in Japan and is already making plans for her next
trip... but where will she go? Her choices are many, so stay tuned to see where she visits
next. |

Bouken Totoro is a famous Japanese character. "Bouken" means an adventure. So he is an adventurous little guy!
Totoro is a magical little creature who lives in the forests and is seen only by children. He is good and kind and helps children.
Our Bouken Totoro loves to visit each student's home - he sees this as one great adventure! Click on Bouken Totoro to see many photos of his visit to USA. He enjoyed helping the Cannelton students learn how to do some simple origami and helps them learn a few Japanese words like Konnitiwa and counting (itchi ni san si...) |
| Merry is new to the travel buddy scene and is from Japan. She is very merry, not just at Christmas time but all
year 'round! She is happily visiting children in The Netherlands. She met Baldy, the Eagle from the USA when she
arrived... so she felt happy to see another travel buddy. She likes it here in Holland, and has already helped show the students there how to do some Japanese writings (Katakana). |
