The Sunlight Hotel

There is a hotel in Cannelton called the Sunlight Hotel. It was built in 1929, but actually there were two of them! The first one burned down and it was on the corner of First and Washington Streets. The Hotel Company voted to build the new Sunlight Hotel at First and Washington instead of 4th and Washington according to the Cannelton Telephone Newspaper dated June 8, 1928. the Hotel was completed and dedicated on April 29, 1929.  The second one is still standing but it is not in service anymore. The Sunlight Hotel (both of them) was very beautiful. It even had a grand staircase. During the terrible flood of 1937 the Sunlight Hotel flooded.
(This flood nearly washed out all of Cannelton)

Interesting note:
My Great-grandmother Brinksneader was the main cook of the Sunlight Hotel at one time.
