St. Michael's School
St. Michael' School is located on 8th Street in Cannelton and was built in 1915. It is a two story brick building that has a basement that is used for a cafeteria and has the restrooms. The upstairs second floor has an auditorium and stage. The school also has a nice playground out in the back with new equipment for the students to play on. The age of the students right now are grades Kindergarten to grade two with only one class for each. (So this is a very small school!). It has always followed the same studies as other Perry County Schools, even though the first teachers there were nuns. It is a public school. In the early 1960's St. Michael's School officially became a part of Cannelton City Schools. This school is considered part of Cannelton Elementary, and is one of two buildings that is Cannelton Elementary. Myers Grade School (first used as a public school in 1868) is the other part, with grades 3-6th. Credits: Cannelton Indiana Sesquicentennial Commemorative Book- copyright 1987
