A Piece
of Independence
Teacher Virgínia Perracini
The museum of Ipiranga is located in São Paulo in the district called Ipiranga.
Is the oldest museum in the city, and more than a million people visit it every day. There
we can see antique furniture and old documents of São Paulo. It is interesting
for teenagers and students because it shows a lot of history there. They offer a service
during the visit to explain why this museum was created and what the most
important items are.
The museum was created in 1893, so the building is antique and historical,
because it had been constructed to be the first Monument of Independence. The building
was created by an Italian engineer called Tommaso Gaudenzio Bezzi. There is a
cozy
inside. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday and the price of the ticket is R$2,00.
People usually spend the time there seeing the documents and historical
paintings made by: Benedito Calixto, Oscar Pereira da Silva e Almeida Júnior. The first
time I went there was with my school group in 1999. I got to know
this place because of my History teacher and because of my parents. Foreign
students will
like it, because they can learn more about São Paulo and more about Brazil, especially
because of the Independence. And the visit is really worth because of the old documents.)
