Benjamin Harrison was the 23rd President of the United States. His house was built in 1875. It was a sixteen room Italianate mansion. The house was located in the Old Northside neighborhood, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. His exact address was 123 Delaware Street. The third floor of the house was originally used as a ballroom.
When students visit the Benjamin Harrison home, they use their senses to identify sounds, smells, and artifacts of the Victorian period. The program is fun and educational, while testing students' deductive reasoning skills. This program can be designed to appeal to any grade level.
Since Benjamin Harrison was the first President to decorate a Christmas tree in the White House, it is fitting that students see the home's Victorian holiday decorations. Each student makes a wooden soldier ornament to hang on his own tree. This program is offered only during December. Benjamin Harrison died on March 13, 1901
