Tourist Office In May of 1926 a theater was opened in Joliet, it was called the Rialto Square Theater. The building itself shows the influence of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine architecture. Nationally known, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Even more telling is the fact that it is considered to be one of the ten most beautiful theatres in the U.S.. The exterior is made of a decorative terra cotta façade. Inside is a combination of Classical, Moorish, and exotic motifs. Due to its years the building did undergo a complete restoration in 1980 and is still used for a wide array of performances. With seating available for 2000, it is possible to see a variety of musical acts, comedy and dance performances. The Rialto Square Theater was added to the list of National Historic Places in 1978.
