Tourist Office The Joliet Park District Airport Hanger was built in 1930 by the park district. It is one of the most distinctive landmarks in the area with its contemporary style. The building itself is built in a combination of Art Deco and Streamline Moderne architecture. This combination is rare and the building is a remarkable example of that composition. The exterior of the airport has gone unchanged through the years with no alterations to retain its originality. On the inside, they had many amenities that are accepted as routine today in airport terminals. These included waiting areas, luggage collection, offices, a restaurant with a dining room, and viewing terraces. The hanger was first listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
