=====================================

Hello to all of our participants!

We hope that all is well with you and your students.

*City Quest has a new look! Check out the new main index page. When it loads you can move your mouse over the cartoon page to see the many areas we have links to such as: Purpose of Project, Curriculum, Participants and links to their reports, Child Safety on the Net, Newsletter Archive, Games and activities, and more! So, please have a look and let us know what you think.

*We are excited to welcome new members to City Quest! Welcome to LABO Torigoe Party Senior Group from Tsuyama City in Japan, and Summit Park Elementary  in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We look forward to working with you and all of our other participants. LABO Torigoe Party Senior Group have a great report on their city that has been added to City Quest. Go to their report at: http://www.e-village.jp/earth-c/html/culture0208/html/000003.html
We would like it if you all can keep us informed of your works and projects in your communities.

*It has nearly been one year since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. If your school or community is observing it in a special way we would like to hear  about it. Sharing your story of remembrance can help others deal with the sad memories of that day. Email your story of remembrance to us at: cq@digitalschool.nl  and we will publish it in our next newsletter. If you have a website for it, or special webpages, we can link to them from City Quest if you like.

In alignment with Sept. 11, American Character Week has been set for Sept. 6-17. According to the website:
"The horrific attacks of September 11 filled us all with grief, shock and  outrage. But in response to the atrocity, people came together, showing tremendous courage, compassion and a spirit of community. To honor the memory of those lost in the attacks, and to celebrate America at its best, the CHARACTER COUNTS! Coalition is coordinating service-oriented and character-building activities for American Character Week, September 6-17, 2002" If you, your class, or your school would like to get involved or find out more about this, go to the website at: http://www.charactercounts.org/acw.htm
They offer free resources and ideas to help raise awareness of and conduct activities during American Character Week. Click here to view the pdf of the Proclamation of this event.

*** Other news....We wish to tell you about a great opportunity for your school ....ChildNet International is hosting the sixth annual Cable & Wireless ChildNet International Awards. As stated on the website:
"This is a unique global contest which rewards Children, and those working with them, who are developing outstanding internet sites and activities which directly benefit other children. If you have a great idea or are developing an innovative project or activity using the Internet then you should see about entering the 2003 event ! You could win prize money and a trip to London, England! " Click here to read more: http://www.childnetawards.org/1.html

*Again, if you need ideas for your reports on your town, try visiting other reports that have been turned in to City Quest. http://www.cityquest.digitalschool.nl/indexparticipants.htm Another place to visit is a website that features holiday and festival information and other cultural issues of several different countries is the Folklore and Family Traditions Website: http://www.humnet.ucla.edu/humnet/folklore/peter/index.html
Another great website which can take you all over the world (Far and Near as it is titled) is at: http://www.far-and-near.com/ These both can give you inspiration to help you and your students with their reports.

We believe that your city, town, or village is special and we want to help you tell others about how special it is to you and why. Please e-mail us if you have any questions or concerns.
