NEWSLETTER - Volume 15 - Fall 2003 ===================================== Hello, Konnichiwa, and ______ to all, School is back in full swing and we wish to take this opportunity to welcome you back to City Quest! We know many of you have news to share, please send your news our way and we will share it with the rest of the City Quest participating schools in our next newsletter. UPDATES AND NEWS: Cohost teacher Rene de Vries and his family went to Africa this summer! They visited many wildlife parks and also some schools. He was troubled by the poverty in the schools. They need so many things we take for granted in most schools around the world. They need books, paper, pencils and so much more. Rene was moved by this and decided to create The Ukunda Project. This project tells about the schools he visited and their needs. He contacted Global SchoolNet Foundation about the project and GSN agreed to be a sponsoring partner in the project! It is now a nonprofit program. Now you and your school can help these schools in need by contributing in any way you can to the Ukunda Project. Visit the program at: http://www.up.digitalschool.nl/
Cohost teacher Joan Goble visited Japan as part
of the Fulbright Memorial Foundation Teacher Scholarship Program. FMF
is sponsored by the government of Japan and allows 200 USA teachers to
travel to Japan to learn about the education, government, and culture
of that beautiful country. She was in Tokyo for a week and
took a day trip to Hiroshima. The next day she went to Kyoto and met
up with cohost Hajime and his family! It was wonderful to see
them again! She then flew (with 19 other USA teachers) to
Asahikawa, Hokkaido for ten days! It was a beautiful area and Joan has
many photos and stories and will be making a website about this trip
very soon. Keep watcing City Quest news for this.
Hajime Yanase will let us know about his travels as well. He has great news...he and his wife have a new baby! She is very well and both she and her mother are fine. We wish to say congratulations to Hajime and his sweet family! If you have a special trip to a special city you wish to tell us about...or if your own city or town is having a special celebration this fall, we would love to hear about it...please email us at cq@digitalschool.nl to let us know. If you did not get a chance to check out the special web site that Cannelton Elementary Media Club put together about the special tree called a "Moon Tree" you can check it all out at: http://www.siec.k12.in.us/cannelton/moontree/moontree.htm * Again, if you need ideas for your reports on your town, try visiting other reports that have been turned in to City Quest. http://www.cityquest.digitalschool.nl/indexparticipants.htm We believe that your city, town, or village is special and we want to help you tell others about how special it is to you and why.
