NEWSLETTER - Volume 8 - June/July 2002
=====================================

Hello to all of our participants!

We hope that you all is well with you and your students.  We know that many of you are on summer vacation.  We want to update you on what has been happening with City Quest.

City Quest will be going through some changes in the very near future. We plan on updating the site to make it easier to navigate through, making it more kid-friendly as well.  The look of the main page will have hotspots with links to different sections of our site.  This change should be ready August.

If you have not sent in your town reports yet, let us know if you need any guidance on sending them in.  We are very happy to help you.  We have several reports published on our websites.  They are from USA, The Netherlands, Japan, Canada, South Africa, and Italy.  If you have not had a chance to see them...go to our Tourist section of City Quest at:
http://www.pabohaarlem.nl/cityquest/index.html

Great news!  City Quest was highlighted in Classroom Connect's February Newsletter in the Global Projects section.  We recommend Classroom Connect's Newsletter - from page to page there is an abundance of information on how to incorporate the internet into your classroom curriculum.  Classroom Connect also has a website at:  http://www.classroom.net  It has many resources and ideas just waiting for you to use!

We feel it would be great to hear from you all about what sort of special festivals do you have going on in your town or city in these next few weeks.
Cannelton, Indiana, for instance, recently celebrated the rededication of its most famous building, the Cannelton Cotton Mill.  The festival was June 8-9, and it celebrated the saving of the 153 year-old mill.  To see information about this go to the Cannelton Cotton Mill website at:  http://www.siec.k12.in.us/cannelton/Cotton_Mill.htm
Send to us information on your upcoming festivals. We would love to publish this with your other reports...or if you have not had a chance to send in the reports, send in what you have and we will keep adding as you send it all in.

If you need ideas for your reports on your town, try visiting other reports that have been turned in to City Quest.  http://www.pabohaarlem.nl/cityquest/tourist/e-tourist.html  Another place to visit is a great website that features holiday and festival information and other cultural issues of several different countries is the Folklore and Family Traditions Website:  http://www.humnet.ucla.edu/humnet/folklore/peter/index.html
Another great website which can take you all over the world (Far and Near as it is titled) is at:  http://www.far-and-near.com/
These both can give you inspiration to help you and your students with their reports.

We will send out another e-mail newsletter at the end of July to beginning of August...with the announcements of all of the changes we have made. Keep checking the website yourself and give us your suggestions, we will be sure to consider them.

We believe that your city, town, or village is special and we want to help you tell others about how special it is to you and why. Please e-mail us if you have any questions or concerns.

Joan, Rene, and Hajime
