GEDUNG SATE GEDUNG SATE is one of unique buildings in Indonesia, especially in BANDUNG. I said unique because there are 6 'sates' at the top of that building. It was built on July, 27th, 1920 by Ms. Johanna Catherine Coops (Mayor’s daughter) as the putter first rock for building that building. There are so many reasons that make GEDUNG SATE unique. For example, its architecture style is a fusion of western and eastern. H.P. Barlage said that this building remained us to architecture style of Italy, Renaissance. Especially it’s west wing. And then, a tower in centre building is like “MERU” from Bali or pagoda from Thailand. Beauties Borobudur temple can we see in this building too. “Gedung Sate is most beautiful building in Indonesia (het mooisteaebouw van Indonesie)” said D. Ruhl on his book, “Bandoeng En Haar Hoogvlakte” (1952). When the war of independence happened on December, 3rd, 1945, there were seven boys who were killed while resisted Ghurkha. And now, in Gedung Sate’s yard there is one big rock for remembering the heroes. In the second floor of Gedung Sate there is governor’s work room with his three representatives. In the main room of first floor there are two big rooms (west room and east room). This room is often used for formal ceremonies. There is bronze statue of “one-horn rhinoceros” in the middle room. And then in the north of Gedung Sate there is western java fight monument. And its inauguration was on August, 17th, 1995.It happened in 50 years independence of Indonesia. |
