The
Origawa Dam
 |
The Origawa Dam has been built in May 1993. The dam is 144 meters high. It is the same height as a forty-story building. The width of the dam is the same as a Shinkansen (Japanese super express train) of fourteen cars. The volume of water kept in store is 15,100,000 cubic meters, the same volume as sixty thousands water of 25 meters pool. When we saw the huge scene, we are very surprised. The men in the construction site looked to be very little. When we used the binoculars, we could look at the working people.

The Origawa Dam is a kind of multipurpose dam. It makes no damage from flooding when it rains heavily. The second purpose is generating electricity. It generates 1,800 kilowatts, which is for about six hundred homes. The third purpose is for the protection of the environment. When there is a spell of dry weather, the water in this dam will be run in this Origawa
River.

When we went to the Origawa Dam, we arrived at Fureai center. "Fureai" means contact or rapport in English. In the yard of Fureai center, we could see the view of construction work. There are some binoculars in there. When we entered the building, we found eight stamps representing the dam and its construction. Some of us collected the commemorative stamps. There are stamps of this Dam, bulldozer, and so on. In the second floor, there are some pictures sent out by TVs, projector and computers. They run by some buttons.

Then we found the scale model of the dam. It looks very easy to understand about the region. For example, if we push the button of the Second Power Plant, the red electric bulb in the model lights up. And if we push the road to there from our city, many blue lights shine brightly.
There is a store in the third floor. Then we went up the stairs, and we arrived at the housetop. There commands a fine view of Dam and river and mountains. We could also use some binoculars in there. We found many big machines, scaffolding, some crane trucks and many working people.
